Richard Kevin Olsen
Richard Kevin Olsen is a licensed real estate broker in Arizona. A New
York City native, Olsen began his business career as a stockbroker with the
Wall Street firm of Reynolds and Company. From there he moved on to the
Madison Avenue firm of Batten, Barton, Durstin & Osborn, where he ran TV
advertising campaigns for national consumer goods brands. Woolite, Easy-Off,
Black Flag, and Dannon Yogurt are a few of the better-known brands for which
he was responsible. In 1973 he relocated to Arizona, settling first in
Sedona.
Olsen graduated from Yale in 1961 with a BA degree in economics and
pursued his postgraduate studies in management sciences at New York
University's Bernard Baruch School of Business. He teaches license renewal
classes to other brokers and has spoken on real estate matters before the
Arizona Association of Realtors, the Arizona Trustees Association, the
Arizona Bar, the REO Manager's Association of California, and the National
District Attorneys' Association.
An active volunteer member of the Arizona Association of Realtors, Mr. Olsen
served as their PAC Chairman, Legislative Chairman and Executive Committee
Member. In 1982 he served as President of the Sedona-Verde Valley Board of
REALTORS of which he was a founding broker and was honored as that Board's
Realtor of the Year in the same year. While a resident of Sedona Olsen
specialized in the listing and sale of luxury retirement homes and building
sites.
In 1988 Olsen relocated his business to Phoenix. Shortly thereafter Governor
Mofford appointed him to Arizona's 14-member RTC Advisory Board. Though not
an attorney, he is acknowledged to be an expert on trust deeds, and has been
certified by the Arizona Department of Real Estate to teach the subject.
While serving as the Legislative Chairman for the Arizona Association of
Realtors he drafted and introduced a bill in the State Legislature
overhauling Arizona's trust deed statutes which passed without a dissenting
vote.
Olsen is the president and owner-broker of Allegiance Homes LLC, a company
that specializes in real estate "crisis management" in addition to
conventional real estate transactions, both residential and commercial.
Because of his wide-ranging real estate experience Olsen is often called
upon by Arizona's legal and financial communities as a real estate
consultant, court-appointed receiver, and expert witness in cases involving
fraud, negligence and standard of care issues.
In the late 1980's, when law enforcement agencies were actively seizing real
estate and personal property owned by drug dealers, Mr. Olsen was designated
as receiver by 33 state and local law enforcement agencies, responsible for
managing and selling these properties. In 1993 the United States Department
of Justice awarded his company an exclusive contract to provide the U.S.
Marshal's Service with similar real estate management and sales services for
their seized properties throughout Arizona.
Mr. Olsen resides in north-Central Phoenix with his wife Sharon in a custom
home he designed and built in 1998. He is a licensed private pilot,
residential developer and accomplished Chinese chef whose idea of relaxation
is a weekend on a houseboat on Lake Powell.
